Chapter One:

"Now, don't you go about waking Fallowfern." The voice was nothing but smothered darkness, but Spiderkit knew exactly where it had came from.

The black kit put her paw back down on the ground, staring at the rise and fall of the brown shape in front of her. She looked over her shoulder with pleading eyes at her mother, Azurewing, just a shifting shape in her nest, icy eyes just slits. Hollykit was still curled up beside her, her rough, thistle-like fur sticking in all directions.

"Can I please go outside?" Spiderkit mewled, moss clinging to her soft downy fur.

The black queen turned over in her bed of bra
